The Poinsettia Bowl, sponsored for the 12th year running by San Diego County Credit Union, kicks off at 6 p.m. Wednesday at Qualcomm Stadium.
The game, for which SDCCU has served as title sponsor since its inception in 2005, is the only college football bowl game among the nation’s 41 such games with a credit union as a title sponsor, SDCCU said Monday.
The bowl game will match the University of Wyoming Cowboys against the Brigham Young University Cougars. This will be Wyoming’s 14th bowl appearance and the team’s 1st appearance in the SDCCU Poinsettia Bowl. It will be BYU’s 12th straight postseason trip and 2nd appearance in the SDCCU Poinsettia Bowl. The Cowboys and Cougars are facing one another for the 78th time.
According to the San Diego Bowl Game Association, which produces the Poinsettia Bowl and the Holiday Bowl, the previous 11 San Diego County Credit Union Poinsettia Bowl games have added nearly $100 million in combined revenue into the local economy.
Tickets for the game, available at sandiegobowlgames.com, start at $45. From each ticket sold, $1 will go to financial literacy program Biz Kid$, the beneficiary of this year’s game.
