Unnamed Buyers Interested in Visual Sciences

Visual Sciences Inc., the publicly traded Web analytics company formerly known as WebSideStory, said July 12 that it has hired Goldman, Sachs & Co. to help it evaluate offers to buy the company.

“Multiple parties” have expressed interest in buying the company, Visual Sciences said in a statement released after the trading day ended July 12. The company did not release the names of the parties that made offers to buy the company, and said the unsolicited offers came “in recent weeks.”

Shares of Visual Sciences, traded as VSCN on the Nasdaq, rose 11 percent July 12 to close at $19. They stood at $19.34 during midday trading July 13.

The company plans to announce second-quarter financial results Aug. 6. Visual Sciences said in its July 12 announcement that it expected revenue of $19.5 million to $19.8 million , down from a previous forecast in the $21 million range , and that it expects a loss of 1-2 cents per share.
