AT&T Upgrades Wireless Service, Enabling Faster Data Downloads

AT&T Inc. has introduced an upgraded version of its wireless service, giving San Diegans the ability to download data faster. The fourth-generation network uses a technology called 4G LTE.

Not all of San Diego County has 4G LTE service, an AT&T spokesman said. The carrier said it expects to complete its nationwide 4G rollout by the end of 2013. The spokesman said additional network improvements let AT&T customers venture into areas that don’t yet have the 4G LTE equipment and nevertheless get fast, consistent service.

AT&T has spent $375 million to improve its San Diego network between 2008 and 2010, the spokesman said, adding that figures for 2011 were not yet available.

AT&T has introduced new smartphones and tablets to go with its upgraded network.
