Supermarkets, Labor Reach Tentative Agreement

The looming grocery strike and lockout have been averted.

The United Food and Commercial Workers Union, which represents 60,000 grocery workers in Southern California, announced July 18 that it had reached a tentative agreement with the parent companies of Vons, Albertsons and Ralphs supermarkets.

Details of the contract will be available following a ratification vote Sunday, the union said in a prepared statement.
