There have been a spate of health center closings in the wake of the area wildfires – two Palomar Health clinics in San Marcos closed May 15, and the Scripps Coastal Medical Center in Carlsbad shut down May 14. The Scripps Coastal Medical Center in Escondido also closed due to wildfires.
Area hospitals like Tri-City Medical Center in Oceanside and Palomar Medical Center in Escondido remained open at press time, however a spokeswoman for Palomar said its emergency room is on bypass and “for all intents and purposes closed.” The hospital is equipped to evacuate if it needs to, and is working closely with firefighting officials to ensure the safety of patients.
Kaiser Permanente announced its San Marcos medical center will remain closed on Friday, May 16. It closed on May 15 due to the wildfire in the region; members who have appointments will be contacted by a Kaiser representative to reschedule. The facility provides primary and urgent care, but does not have an emergency department.
