SmartDrive Gets Series C Funding

San Diego-based SmartDrive Systems Inc. announced Jan. 23 that it closed Series C funding with four venture capital firms participating in the round. Financial details are undisclosed.

Westport, Conn.-based Oak Investment Partners led the round, with existing investors Revolution Ventures, the Founders Fund and Western Technology Investments also involved.

SmartDrive creates hardware and software that capture video of problematic driving incidents. The technology manages and organizes that information, allowing a company to assess driver risk and protect customers from risk-related costs.

SmartDrive’s customers include the California Department of Transportation and the Salvation Army, among other organizations maintaining small to large fleets. These fleets include ambulances, taxis, school buses and waste management vehicles.
