Scott Slater, whose University Heights eatery S&M Sausage and Meat closed last month, said this week he will sell his six-unit chain of Slater’s 50/50 restaurants, best known for burgers half-bacon and half-ground beef.
There are two Slater’s 50/50 locations in San Diego, in Liberty Station and in San Marcos.
Although Slater filed a notice with the California Economic Development Department on Dec. 7 indicating the sale could result in job losses for as many as 334 workers, including 145 in San Diego, Slater said this week the filing was done as a “courtesy” to the chain’s proposed new owner, Elite Restaurant Group, and employees would not be laid off nor the restaurants closed.
