Passenger traffic at San Diego International Airport rose 3.4 percent from a year ago in the first nine months of 2016, topping 15.5 million, according to the latest monthly data from the San Diego County Regional Airport Authority.
For the January-to-September period, the category totals for both arriving and departing passengers were each up by the same 3.4 percent, with the airport handling just over 7.76 million arriving and 7.78 million departing travelers.
The airport’s domestic passenger total topped 14.9 million for the nine-month period, up 3 percent from a year ago; while the international count reached 599,718 for a 13.6 percent increase. Total cargo tons processed at the airport was 125,844.8, up 9.1 percent from the same span of 2015.
For the month of September, airport passenger traffic topped 1.72 million, for a 5.8 percent increase from a year ago. The domestic count rose 5.3 percent, to just under 1.7 million; and the international count increased 20.8 percent, to 63,899.
September’s cargo tonnage processed at the airport reached 13,788.6 for a 2.9 percent increase.
