Through a joint venture Scripps Health has planned a 120-bed behavioral health facility in Chula Vista that will replace a smaller behavioral health unit at Scripps Mercy Hospital.
Scripps is partnering with Acadia Healthcare Company, which provides behavioral health services in 40 states, the United Kingdom and Puerto Rica.
It’s anticipated the new center – part of a master development plan — will come online in 2023. Until that point, Scripps said it will keep operating Scripps Mercy’s 36-bed inpatient behavioral health. In addition, behavioral health support services will continue at all of Scripps’ hospital emergency departments and urgent care centers.
“This collaboration gives us the opportunity not only to continue, but to significantly expand our commitment to serve behavioral health patients,” said Scripps Health President and CEO Chris Van Gorder in a statement.
The center will serve adult and adolescent inpatients, and offer outpatient services. It’s expected to staff 250, while Scripps Mercy’s behavioral health unit has 93 employees.
