Executive Spotlight: Kevin Kujawa
American Specialty Health, a personal health improvement organization, has named Kevin Kujawa to the position of chief information officer and executive vice president. Kujawa will oversee all information technology services and serve on the company’s newly created senior executive team.
Previously, Kujawa was senior vice president of information technology operations with ASH. With more than 18 years of information technology experience in the health care industry, Kujawa joined the organization in 1995. Since then, he has been responsible for the company’s software programming, network administration, telecommunications, data analysis and reporting and Web development.
Banking and Finance
The San Diego Venture Group has announced the new members of its 2008 board of directors. New members are Peter Arrowsmith, general partner at JMI Equity; Carin Canale, president of Porter Novelli Life Sciences; Thomas Coll, partner with Cooley Godward Kronish; David Diamond, partner with Mayer Hoffman McCann; Jeremy Glaser, partner with Morrison & Foerster; Mason Matthies, managing director of RR Donnelley; and Steve Stuckey, manager of the San Diego technology and life sciences office for Comerica.
RSM McGladrey Inc. has named Sam Mascareno as its newest managing director. Mascareno will be based in the firm’s San Diego office. Mascareno joined RSM McGladrey in 2001, and he previously worked for PricewaterhouseCoopers in its San Diego, Newport Beach and Mexico offices.
Dowling & Yahnke LLC, an investment management firm, has announced that Will Beamer is now a partner in the firm. Beamer joined Dowling & Yahnke in 2002 as a portfolio manager.
Construction and Design
Angel Trespando is serving as project manager for Consolidated Contracting Services Inc., with Garet McInroe as project engineer and Steve Viscioni as construction superintendent.
Foley & Lardner has hired Elizabeth Cason as a new associate in its San Diego office. As a member of the firm’s environmental regulation practice group, Cason’s practice will focus on land use matters, regulatory compliance and issues related to the California Environmental Quality Act.
Government and Nonprofit
The board of directors of the Old Globe Theatre has announced the reorganization of its leadership team. Jack O’Brien, artistic director for 26 years, will assume the title of artistic director emeritus. Jerry Patch, who joined the theater in 2005 to oversee day-to-day artistic operations, will become co-artistic director with Darko Tresnjak. Tresnjak will expand his role from oversight of the Shakespeare Festival to a broader role in the artistic management of the theater.
Health Care and Biotech
Graham Barnes has been named as new chief executive officer of BidShift Inc., a staffing firm for health care providers. Barnes has more than 25 years of experience in wireless telecommunications, management, strategic planning, business development, sales and systems engineering. Before joining BidShift, Barnes was senior vice president at Covad Communications.
Ceregene Inc. has announced the promotion of Raymond Bartus to the positions of executive vice president of clinical and preclinical research and development and chief operating officer. Since joining Ceregene in 2002, Bartus has led the preclinical and clinical development efforts for two Ceregene programs.
Cheryl Odell has accepted the new position of chief nursing officer for Sharp Mesa Vista Hospital at Sharp HealthCare in San Diego. Odell has been with Sharp for 30 years, where she most recently served as director of acute care and case management at Sharp Memorial Hospital.
Regulus Therapeutics LLC, a joint venture between Isis Pharmaceuticals Inc. and Cambridge, Mass.-based Alnylam Pharmaceuticals Inc., has appointed Kleanthis Xanthopoulos to the position of president and chief executive officer of the company. Most recently a managing director of venture capital firm Enterprise Partners, Xanthopoulos was president and chief executive officer of Anadys Pharmaceuticals.
Jesse Rodriguez has been promoted to wine director for The Grand Del Mar resort. Previously, Rodriguez served as head sommelier at the Addison restaurant at the Grand. In his new position, Rodriguez will lead the resort’s wine program, overseeing staffing and training, wine-related events and storage for five dining venues, the gourmet shop and catering functions.
Gregory Powers has joined Procopio, Cory, Hargreaves & Savitch LLP as an attorney within the firm’s environmental, land use and government affairs practice group. He joins Procopio from SunCal Cos. in Irvine.
Casey Gerry Schenk Francavilla Blatt & Penfield LLP has named Juan Ordaz Jr. and Jessica Klarer as associate attorneys. Ordaz will concentrate his practice on plaintiffs’ injuries, including auto collisions, wrongful death claims and federal tort claims. Klarer will focus on products and premises liability, asbestos litigation and other personal injury cases.
Higgs, Fletcher & Mack LLC has announced the addition of new associate Kristin Rizzo. Rizzo will be practicing with the firm’s health care practice group.
Townsend and Townsend and Crew LLP has announced that Kenneth Jenkins has joined the firm as special counsel in the firm’s biotechnology and chemistry practice group. Jenkins focuses on patent counseling, procurement and litigation for companies engaged in the development of chemistry and biotechnology-related technologies. His emphasis is in the pharmaceutical industry.
Kyocera America Inc. has announced the promotion of David Hester to the newly created position of vice president, quality assurance and supply chain management. Hester joined Kyocera in 2000 and has more than 20 years of experience in electronics manufacturing. He previously served as executive general manager, quality assurance and supply chain at Kyocera America Inc.’s San Diego headquarters.
Media and Marketing
JWalcher Communications has added Maya Ellman as an account executive. Ellman will be responsible for managing, coordinating and implementing public relations tactics for accounts. Ellman has experience in hospitality and retail public relations.
The Coronado Association of Realtors has appointed two new members to its board. Leslie Kilpatrick and Fran Palmer, both Realtors for Willis Allen Real Estate, will serve on the board, which oversees all association operations, including budgets, member services, long-range planning and education.
Lee & Associates has announced the addition of John Lazor, who has joined the firm’s real estate team out of its San Diego/UTC office. Lazor takes the role of principal. A leasing and development specialist for shopping centers for more than 32 years, Lazor most recently served as president and chief operating officer of AnCor Property Group LLC in Del Mar.
Willis Allen Real Estate has added another agent to its Realtor team. Janet Gothard has joined the firm’s Rancho Santa Fe branch. She also has a background in business and marketing, having worked in the sales department at Quicksilver Inc.
Portland-based Harsch Investment Properties has hired Al Beaudette to the position of senior vice president overseeing the office and industrial division. He will oversee the western regional offices, including San Diego.
