Executive Spotlight: Doron Lurie

DriveCam Inc. has announced that Doron Lurie is vice president of marketing and business development. He will be responsible for developing new markets, products and services and building sales channels and alliances, both domestically and internationally. Lurie has 20 years’ experience introducing disruptive technologies and business models to wireless, software and service industries. “Doron’s experience in emerging technology-based service industries will be instrumental in helping us capture and sustain market leadership in this rapidly growing industry,” said Bruce Moeller, DriveCam’s president and chief executive officer. Most recently, Lurie was a senior vice president at ProfitLine.


Banking and Finance

SCME Mortgage Bankers has named Mary McAvinue the sales support manager. She will act as a liaison between the corporate office and the branch offices, as well as create and coordinate sales and operations training seminars. McAvinue has 21 years of mortgage industry experience.


Construction and Design

John Letter joins BPA Architecture Planning Interiors and will focus on expanding the company’s expertise in corporate and health-care design. Letter has a background in business and has worked on national and international projects. Fields Devereaux Architects & Engineers has announced that David Tilton, Shawn Mazur and Ciara Hotz have joined the San Diego team. Tilton has more than 15 years of experience in the industry and is the project manager for the Riverside and San Diego offices. Mazur is the job captain and previously served as project coordinator for Kullman Industries. Hotz is the marketing coordinator and will be responsible for leading the regional business development, marketing and public relations efforts. Stephan Castellanos has joined Chong Partners Architecture as an associate partner. Castellanos previously served as California state architect for four years. He developed policy and directed design and construction of California’s public schools, community colleges and public buildings. “His exceptional knowledge of education and the public realm and his interest in sustainability and research-based design dovetail with our firm’s focus. Steve will be a great resource for our clients and our staff,” said Gordon Chong, founder and president of Chong Partners.


Health Care and Biotech

Geoffrey Wahl, professor at the Salk Institute for Biological Studies, was elected the 2006-07 president of the American Association for Cancer Research. Wahl has developed numerous research techniques that have been widely patented and licensed and has written more than 120 research papers. In his research in Salk’s Gene Expression Laboratory, Wahl is trying to determine how cancer originates and progresses and why tumors become resistant to even the most powerful anti-cancer drugs.


High-Tech and Manufacturing

Sensoria Corp. has appointed David A. Oberholzer to vice president of sales. Most recently, Oberholzer was vice president of sales at BelAir Networks Inc., where he managed sales and business development activities in Washington, D.C., Dallas and Kansas. Cymer Inc. has named Daniel Dunn the vice president of customer satisfaction. Dunn will be responsible for overseeing Cymer’s worldwide field service as well as all technical support, documentation and training. Most recently, Dunn held several senior management level positions at Novellus Systems.


Hotels and Restaurants

Sycuan Resort and Casino has announced the appointment of Anita Bye as community development manager. She will be responsible for developing and maintaining business relationships as well as coordinating special events. Bye has more than 20 years of community relations experience and previously served as a public relations manager for Neiman Marcus. Carl A. Mahnke has been named senior director of catering and convention services at the Manchester Grand Hyatt San Diego. Mahnke will be responsible for executing the details of meetings, ranging from menus to meeting room setup and overseeing all social events.


Law

John Grissom has joined Higgs, Fletcher & Mack’s tax practice group and corporate and securities practice group. Most recently, Grissom worked for Dostart, Clapp & Coveney. Paul, Hastings, Janofsky & Walker LLP has announced that Stephen Korniczky has been named chairman of global intellectual property practice, and William Sullivan has been appointed chairman of the San Diego office. Korniczky has a full-service IP practice representing publicly traded and emerging companies within numerous industries. Sullivan’s practice focuses on securities and complex business. Sullivan is involved in the company’s pro bono program and has served on the board of trustees and chairman of the strategic planning committee for the Bishop’s School since 2000.


Media and Marketing

Ron Johnson, Don Williams and Marc Farrar have been appointed to executive management positions with Time Warner Cable’s San Diego division. Johnson is the vice president of technical services and will manage the employee teams that install, maintain and repair customer connections. Williams is the vice president of operations support and will manage the teams that support front-line employees. Farrar is the vice president of public affairs. SZPR Inc. has announced the addition of Steven Fiore as account supervisor. Fiore has experience in the creation and execution of PR campaigns for the technology industry. CurtCo Media has announced the appointment of Kristy Buescher to the newly created position of corporate newsstand director. Buescher will oversee national distribution for all CurtCo titles and has more than 10 years of industry experience.


Real Estate

Virginia Ripoll has joined Spectrum Property Management as a property manager. Ripoll has six years of property management experience and previously served as property administrator for CB Richard Ellis. Zaid Iniguez has joined Re/Max Associates’ Encinitas office as real estate sales agent. Iniguez specializes in North County residential properties.


Awards and Recognition

Craig Reber, the general manager of the Radisson Hotel La Jolla, received the General Manager of the Year Award for all Radissons nationwide.
