Report Speaks Volumes About Bayside Development in Chula Vista

The Port of San Diego released an updated environmental report for the Chula Vista bay front May 23 that includes detailed plans by Gaylord Entertainment to construct a 2,000-room hotel and convention center at the site.

The 10,069-page report analyzes possible environmental effects the Gaylord project will have on such issues as traffic, aesthetics, biological resources, water and air quality, and noise.

In addition to the $1 billion Gaylord project, the bay front is also planned to accommodate Pacifica Companies’ proposed complex of 1,500 condos and a 250-room hotel, plus office, retail and entertainment venues.

The port updated a draft environmental report that was issued two years ago. The new report contains responses to comment letters totaling 700 pages.

The revised report, which is available at the Chula Vista and the downtown San Diego libraries, will be available for public review and comment for 45 days ending on July 8. An executive summary is available online at www.portofsandiego.org.

Sometime in June, the port will hold an informational meeting covering the document.
