Report: San Diego-Carlsbad Area Leads State in Residential Solar Power Installed in 2016

In California, the San Diego-Carlsbad area in 2016 ranked first in total amount of residential solar capacity installed, according to the California Green Innovation Index.

The index, by Next 10, a nonprofit that promotes the growth of California’s green economy, states that last year San Diego-Carlsbad’s total amount of residential solar capacity installed was 152,873 kilowatts.

Coming in second was Los-Angeles-Long Beach-Anaheim, followed by Riverside-San Bernardino-Ontario.

San Diego-Carlsbad is considered a metropolitan statistical area, which is the type of geographic data used in the report’s rankings.

The report also found:

• Even as California’s economy keeps growing, the state’s carbon footprint continues to shrink;

• From 2010 to 2015, California solar generation increased by over 1,738 percent, and as of early 2017, the state leads the nation in installed solar capacity with 18,963 megawatts; and

• In 2015, California increased renewable electricity to 21.9 percent of total electricity generation, up 1.8 percent from the year before.
