Renovation to Begin on Second Carlsbad Library

The newly renovated Georgina Cole Library on Carlsbad Village Drive will reopen Feb. 27 as crews ready to begin work on a second library project.

The renovations are part of an $11 million budget approved by the Carlsbad City Council to renovate two of its three libraries. The second phase of the city’s library modernization project includes improvements to the 17-year-old Carlsbad City Library on Dove Lane, what is known as Dove Library.

Both projects used the same group of construction consultants. For the upcoming improvements to Dove Library, the architect is the Group 4 Architecture. Prava Construction Services Inc. is the general contractor. Both libraries will feature energy-efficient lighting from local company Solatube.

Improvements to the 49-year-old Georgina Cole Library include WiFi and enhanced technology, improved accessibility, a new Friends of the Library bookstore, new carpet and paint, a new elevator and a fire sprinkler system.

The upgrades on Dove Library will start Feb. 23 and finish in mid-2016. They will include collaborative spaces, extra seats for patrons, a patio and café, areas for teens and young adults, a remodeled auditorium and a new Friends of the Library bookstore.
