Reading Cinemas has closed its 15-screen movie theater in the Gaslamp Quarter, after eight years in operation at 701 Fifth Ave.
A statement posted on the website of Los Angeles-based Reading said the theater was closed as of Feb. 1, but the company did not elaborate on the reasons.
The posting invites customers to visit the company’s other theaters in the San Diego County market, located in Clairemont, La Mesa and Carmel Mountain Ranch.
According to brokerage firm CBRE Group Inc., which handles leasing for the property, building owner OliverMcMillan plans to convert it for other retail uses but without a movie theater.
