PURE Bioscience Inc. Reports 77% Increase in Annual Revenue

PURE Bioscience Inc., creator of an antimicrobial that can be safely sprayed directly on food to kill harmful bacteria, reported a 77 percent increase to its annual revenue this year.

The company’s fiscal year, which ended on July 31, ended with $1.3 million in revenue. That’s up from $729,000 in revenue the prior year.

The company makes a product called silver dihydrogen citrate, or SDC, that can reduce dangerous pathogens like salmonella from food and food processing facilities. The company’s molecule is an electrolytically-generated (a technique that uses a direct electric current to drive a chemical reaction) source of stabilized ionic silver. It is colorless, odorless, tasteless and noncaustic.

Interestingly, bacteria cannot build up a resistance to SDC, unlike ammonia or chlorine — which is used in meat processing plants today.

During the fiscal year, PURE landed three regulatory approvals that will allow sales of the company’s product. They receive approval from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for use of a product called PURE Control in both produce and poultry processing facilities. They also received approval from the U.S. Department of Agriculture for two uses in poultry processing.

“SDC continues to prove to be a game changing, non-toxic food safety solution to reduce the risks of food contamination and food borne illness outbreaks,” Hank Lambert, CEO of PURE, said in a statement.
