Musician Releases Americana CD
To borrow a quote from famed writer Oscar Wilde, “When bankers get together they talk about art and when artists get together they talk about money.”
Nick Binkley can talk to bankers about art/music and he can talk to artists about money.
The Rancho Santa Fe venture capitalist/musician recently released his sophomore CD, “Let The Boy Jam,” which crosses all genres of Americana music, from folk to rock to country. The CD even has some Russian music influence.
Jamming with Binkley on the new CD is Doug Lunn on bass; guitarist Steve Dudas, who also produced four songs; keyboardist Mark Hart, formerly with Australian music group Crowded House; guitarist Frank Reckard, formerly with Emmylou Harris’ Hot Band; and mandolin player Chris Darrow, former guitarist with Hoyt Axton and James Taylor, and a member of the 1960s group Kaleidoscope. Denny Bruce, the original drummer from Frank Zappa’s Mothers of Invention, also produced some of the songs on “Let The Boy Jam.”
The CD, which retails for about $12.99, can be purchased at Lou’s Records in Leucadia, Tower Records in La Jolla, as well as online at Amazon.com and psbrecords.com.
Binkley, an investment banker by trade, has been strumming the guitar since the age of 7.
“When I was a little kid, I used to turn on the radio and listen to country music in L.A.,” he said. “It was the Bakersfield Sound and I loved that music.”
Binkley began writing music in 1973 while working for Chase Manhattan in New York.
Now Binkley’s “day” job is general partner of Forrest Binkley & Brown, a venture capitalist firm headquartered in Solana Beach.
