My favorite Port of San Diego waterfront event was when the Big Bay Boom lit up my life from several miles away in 2012 when all the fireworks went off at once.
Talk about experiential marketing.
Who has topped that and the coverage it generated?
Well, the port is offering a little less spectacle but nonetheless spectacular events for FY2019/FY 2020, 64 are on the schedule, eight of which are signature events and 56 are community events. Organizations receive grants and/or fee waivers for events.
According to the port, the events are part of the Port of San Diego’s Tidelands Activation Program, an annual grant program that supports events that engage the community and inspire visitors to enjoy San Diego Bay. Events are selected through a rigorous public evaluation process led by the Tidelands Activation Committee, which includes members of the community.
The events include: San Diego Symphony Orchestra Bayside Summer Nights; Youth Fishing Program; Chula Vista HarborFest; SDPAC San Diego Festival of Beer; Japanese Community Center San Diego Ramen Festival; Parade of Lights; and the National City Chamber of Commerce 8th Annual International Mariachi Festival as well as many more events.
