Philanthropist Donating $7.5 Million for New UCSD Cancer Hospital

Area philanthropist Pauline Foster is donating $7.5 million to help build a new cancer care hospital at University of California, San Diego’s Jacobs Medical Center.

The new facility will be called “The Pauline and Stanley Foster Hospital for Cancer Care,” and is projected to open in 2016. Foster, a longtime donor to UC San Diego, lost both her husband and brother to cancer, thus motivating the decision, the university health system said in a news release.

The new center will occupy three floors of the new, $839 million Jacobs Medical Center, which is still under construction. The cancer care facility will house 108 dedicated beds, outfitted to treat patients in all stages of cancer.
