Massachusetts-based Dunkin’ Brands Group Inc. plans a March 10 opening for its combination Dunkin’ Donuts/ Baskin-Robbins restaurant, at downtown’s Embassy Suites San Diego Bay hotel.
Company officials said the eatery, in the lobby of the hotel at 601 Pacific Highway, will be the first nontraditional Dunkin’ Donuts restaurant in San Diego County and just the third location currently operating in California. Dunkin’ will be giving free travel mugs to the first 100 guests at the new location.
The restaurant will sell Dunkin’ donuts, baked goods, coffee and sandwiches, along with Baskin-Robbins ice cream, ice cream cakes and frozen beverages.
The local region’s only current Dunkin’ Donuts is at Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton near Oceanside. Dunkin’ Brands has recently been recruiting new California franchisees, after not having a presence in the state for several years.
The company, with more than 600 donut and ice cream shops nationwide, last fall announced it has signed agreements with franchisees to open 27 new restaurants in Southern California, including one at the downtown Embassy Suites, owned by Pebblebrook Hotel Trust.
Other upcoming locations have yet to be announced for San Diego County. New stores are also in the works in neighboring Orange, Riverside and San Bernardino counties, with the first of those set to open in 2015.
