FALLBROOK , Timely Technologies is lending its services to help the environment.
According to Ruth Noyes, co-owner of the Fallbrook company, 94 percent of all information used by businesses appears on paper.
In an effort to reduce the 2.7 billion business documents filed away daily, the record storage and computer maintenance company is providing businesses in San Diego and North County with document imaging software.
The software enables the companies to store roughly 39,000 pages of text information on a single compact disc. Storing anything from large volumes of reports to graphics and charts, the company offers a virtual paperless office.
“This is the era of conservation,” Noyes said. “And you’ll be able to avoid paper cuts,” which is only one of the benefits of document storing.
The imaging software, A & L; Document Console, takes original paper documents that have been fed through a scanner and converts them into a digital format on a database.
– Flexibility In Organizing Data
The software allows users to create and organize databases according to their needs.
In 1997, Timely Technologies signed on as a customer, A & L; Computer Software Ltd., a Canadian company that specializes in computer storage software, to offer the product and pay A & L; a percentage of its sales profit.
“You have control over your databases and you can have as many as you want,” she said.
Noyes also noted that if the database is linked to a specific network, users are able to access the information from anywhere.
Timely Technologies has roughly 300 customers, including independent doctors offices and two hospitals, businesses that have high record-storage needs.
What sets Timely Technologies apart from other record storage companies is that instead of paying for someone to store the documents, Timely provides the software storage and teaches companies how to store records and documents efficiently and cost-effectively.
Something, Noyes said, a majority of its competition doesn’t offer.
– Repair, Recovery Services Offered
Besides data storage software, Timely Technologies offers computer repair and document recovery services and takes service calls 24 hours a day, at no charge.
“We wanted to be a service-oriented company. It doesn’t work for any of us to be put on hold,” Noyes said in reference to computer repair companies that were once reached through an 800 phone number, and proceeded to put potential customers on hold and waiting in a cue.
The 5-year-old business was started by Noyes, and her husband and co-owner, Ray Noyes, who after a work-related injury went back to school for computer training.
She said they chose to get into information systems and services because they “fell in love with what computers could do” and they wanted to provide “something that is valuable for your clientele.”
“We feel this is the biggest bang for a buck,” Ruth Noyes said. “We’re showing you how to keep your computers up and running, while at the same time showing you how to get the best use out of them.”
Timely’s service charge is $40 an hour for customers in North County and $50 an hour for San Diego customers.
While most of Timely’s services are offered in Fallbrook and Temecula, Noyes said the goal for this year is expanding its customer relations in San Diego.
“It’s all about letting people know your computer is fun,” she said.
