“Seven young cancer patients will get a complete makeover as part of the grand opening of four new Primo Salon and Day Spas in San Diego.

Primo owner Alfredo DiNunzio is sending a limousine to pick up the girls, ages 12 to 18, from Children’s Hospital and Health Center for their spa treatments in Carmel Mountain Ranch on Nov. 3.

They’ll be getting complimentary designer haircuts or wig styling, facials, makeup applications and manicures.

“These kids are going through a really tough time in their lives,” DiNunzio said. “We wanted to do something, give them a boost to help them feel good about themselves.”

The Kids Day of Beauty is only a part of Primo’s grand opening celebration. The second event takes place Nov. 7, when all the proceeds collected from customers at the four hair salons and four salon/day spas will be donated to Children’s Hospital.

Primo Salon and Day Spas are also opening in Poway, Chula Vista and Grossmont Center, with two more planned to open soon in Mission Valley and Temecula. Primo Hair Design locations are in UTC, Fashion Valley Mall, Friars-Mission Center and Carmel Mountain Ranch.

DiNunzio said he was inspired by personal experiences to show his gratitude to the hospital. Half-a-dozen years ago his nephew, Sandro, had a kidney removed, and his son, Giovanni, had a broken arm and leg. Both were treated at Children’s Hospital. “There are no words to explain how grateful they were,” said DiNunzio, who estimates the fund-raiser will generate between $25,000 and $35,000 for the hospital.
