New Logo Features Site

When driving onto the campus of CSU San Marcos, a clear picture is seen of the school’s buildings nestled into a hillside.

That image has now become the university’s new communication mark.

The new logo is a representation of the campus buildings on a hillside, with the words “Cal State San Marcos” displayed below. It resulted from the recommendations of the Academic Program Marketing Task Force, a campuswide group that developed a marketing plan for the university.

Task force member Dr. Glen Brodowsky, a marketing specialist on the business faculty, explained the new logo shows the campus as many people see it from a distance.

The line defining the hills above the campus also resembles a bird in flight, and hints that the campus is soaring, according to the school’s communications department.

The task force said the “brand” of “Cal State San Marcos” sets the university apart from other higher educational institutions in the area that use initials as their identity, such as SDSU, UCSD and USD.

“Our campus must build a brand in order to meet the No. 1 goal set through our recent visioning process , to develop as an institution of first choice that attracts and retains a diverse student body, faculty and staff,” said university President Alex Gonzalez.

The new mark was immediately put into use. The original mark, based on a portal to one of the first campus buildings, will be retired June 30, 2002, although use of the cougar head for athletic teams and student spirit will continue.
