National University Names David Andrews Its New President

David W. Andrews has been named president of National University, effective April 1.

Andrews is the current dean and a professor of the School of Education at Johns Hopkins University. National University, California’s second-largest private, nonprofit university, has more than two dozen campuses and one of the largest schools of education in the country.

Andrews will succeed Michael R. Cunningham, who has served as president of the university since 2013. Cunningham will expand his role as chancellor of the National University system.

“I look forward to creating strong partnerships both within the university and with community groups and organizations that share our dedication to providing adult learners with access to an affordable, high-quality education that has the power to transform individual lives and our regional economies,” Andrews said.

Prior to Johns Hopkins, he helped merge the College of Education with the College of Human Ecology at Ohio State University. He also founded the Center for Learning Excellence during his 10 years there.

Andrews held professorship positions and was head of Department of Human Development and Family Studies at Oregon State University before coming to Ohio State.

He has achieved numerous educational awards and been published in many scholastic journals. Andrews serves on a variety of community service boards.
