San Diego-based alternative lender National Funding has signed on as title sponsor of the upcoming Holiday Bowl for the second year running.
San Diego Bowl Game Association President Ted Tollner said Thursday that the game, scheduled for Dec. 27 at Qualcomm Stadium, will be called the National Funding Holiday Bowl.
Two weeks before the game in 2015, the company stepped in as title sponsor; it was the latest the San Diego Bowl Game Association, which organizes the Holiday Bowl and the Poinsettia Bowl, had gone without a sponsor for the game since 1986, when SeaWorld stepped up.
The agreement announced Thursday is for the 2016 bowl game only. Financial terms were not disclosed.
Dave Gilbert founded National Funding in 1999. The company loans money to small- and medium-size businesses.
“We had a wonderful experience with our involvement last year, and the reaction was very positive from partners, customers and employees,” Gilbert said. “So when the opportunity to be title sponsor arose again, it was an easy decision for us.”
