Mortuary Faces License Revocation Hearing

Poway and Rancho Bernardo’s only funeral home is facing a state attempt to revoke its operating licenses.

Poway-Bernardo Mortuary, previously featured in the A & E; reality television show “Family Plots,” has chosen to contest the request.

In April, investigators with the California Department of Consumer Affairs filed a formal complaint against the mortuary, its owner Carl Comer and its former manager Rick Sadler, asking the department’s director to revoke licenses held by the three.

The agency’s action came after a state inspector made a surprise visit to the business and reported that he discovered it was paying an unlicensed man to embalm bodies.

The mortuary, which continues to operate at 13243 Poway Road, has decided to challenge the potential revocations, though a hearing date is not yet set, according to Consumer Affairs Department spokesman Kevin Flanagan.
