San Diego dessert lovers are getting more places to indulge their sweet tooth, with Menchie’s Frozen Yogurt recently opening its sixth local location and Sloan’s Ice Cream planning to debut its first California spot this fall.

Encino-based Menchie’s recently opened at 3225 Sports Arena Blvd, Suite 105, in Point Loma. The company started in 2007 and has 400 locations worldwide, including five other current stores in San Diego County and one planned in Oceanside, according to its website.

On Oct. 1, Florida-based Sloan’s plans to open at Westfield UTC mall on La Jolla Village Drive in University Towne Center, in a space formerly occupied by Journey’s Shoes.

The 15-year-old Sloan’s, headquartered in West Palm Beach, has five Florida locations selling luxury ice cream and bakery items, with plans to add 200 franchised units nationwide in the next five to seven years, a company statement said.
