Architectural firm LPA Inc. relocated its East Village office Feb. 1 to a new space downtown on National Avenue.
The 9,500-square-foot, one-story space was renovated by LPA’s design team. It was originally constructed in 1935 as a shoe factory and later converted into a mixed-use space.
“We wanted to practice and demonstrate to our clients how the nature of a creative space works both in education and in a corporate setting,” said Dave Gilmore, principal at LPA, in the company’s news release. “A workspace needs to support collaborative behavior and problem-solving.”
The space includes 50 workstations, four hoteling stations, two 12-person conference rooms and a large collaborative room for projects and team meetings, according to a release from the company. The space has no private offices and features clerestory windows and ceilings as high as 25 feet. The existing conference rooms were repurposed with the courtyard, which will be an extension of the workplace. The space is LEED CI Gold rating and features sustainable designs, like LED ambient lighting, LED task lighting at workstations, low-flow plumbing, 70 percent recycled content furniture and efficient water closets to reduce consumption by 35 percent.
The company has other offices in Irvine, San Jose, Sacramento and San Antonio.
Founded in 1965, LPA provides services in architecture, sustainability, planning, interior design, landscape architecture, engineering and graphics and has over 300 employees across its offices.
