UC San Diego Health announced it will open the 245-bed Jacobs Medical Center on Nov. 20.
The 509,500-square-foot, 10-story building – 12 with its two below-ground levels – took more than four years to build. The result is a $943 million hospital offering advanced imaging and surgical technology with floor-to-ceiling windows giving patients a panoramic view of the city.
“Jacobs Medical Center represents a tremendous investment in the future and will transform health care for our region,” University of California, San Diego Chancellor Pradeep K. Khosla said in a Nov. 17 news release. He thanked the building’s namesakes, Joan and Irwin Jacobs, who contributed $100 million in gifts to the effort.
The sleek edifice at 9300 Campus Point Drive has 14 operating rooms, an intensive care unit and 36 private rooms on floors two and three.
Floors four through six are focused on cancer care, bone marrow transplants and stem cell treatments. The top three floors offer women and infants care, including a neonatal intensive care unit.
“Patients will have access to world-class care here in San Diego,” UC San Diego Health CEO Patty Maysent said in the release. “Jacobs Medical Center is a symbol of our continued commitment to provide the highest quality of care to our patients and their loved ones.”
