La Jolla Playhouse, in partnership with UC San Diego, is hosting its annual networking event, “Innovation Night” virtually this year from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 14.
The event brings together leaders from San Diego’s community of science and technology innovators for an evening to celebrate and discuss the efforts of San Diego companies working on the front lines of COVID-19.
Tickets are $45 and all proceeds benefit La Jolla Playhouse’s “R&D” activities such as Digital WOW programming and Education and Outreach efforts to support teachers with theatre curriculum during remote learning.
Celebrated panel speakers this year include: Dr. Cheryl Anderson, Christopher Ashley, Pradeep K. Khosla, Jeffrey Seller and Dr. Eric Topol.
Other special guests include: Joseph Panetta, president and CEO of Biocom; San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer, and Admiral Brett Giroir, M.D., United States Assistant Secretary for Health.

Host Hotels & Resorts, the world’s largest lodging real estate investment trust, has awarded Feeding San Diego grant funds to support its COVID-19 response efforts as part of its partnership with Feeding America. The trust owns Coronado Island Marriott Resort & Spa, Manchester Grand Hyatt San Diego, and Marriott Marquis San Diego Marina.
“Feeding San Diego relies on the generosity of our corporate partners to help us end hunger. We are incredibly thankful for the grant from Host Hotels & Resorts to continue our critical work during the pandemic,” said Gavon Morris, chief philanthropy officer of Feeding San Diego.
The grant funds will support the organization’s ongoing COVID-19 emergency response., which includes hundreds of drive-through distribution sites throughout San Diego County.
San Diego resident and retired real estate developer Richard S. Allen has been inducted into the Paul J. Hooker Center for Entrepreneurial Leadership Hall of Fame at Bowling Green State University.
The leadership hall of fame recognizes Bowling Green graduates who have achieved distinction for founding, leading or building a new business enterprise for five years or more.
“On behalf of the BGSU community, we salute Richard for his achievements and his entrepreneurial spirit,” said Ray Braun, dean of the Schmidthorst College of Business. “He has demonstrated the contributions our alumni and friends are making throughout the world with his extraordinary accomplishments.”
Allen is the retired founder and CEO of The Allen Group and a 1971 alumnus of BGSU.
