San Diego-based BioMed Realty Trust Inc. has fully leased its recently acquired Axiom office property in University Towne Center to biotech firm Ignyta Inc., which will relocate its headquarters from Sorrento Valley.
Financial terms of the lease were not disclosed. A BioMed spokeswoman said Ignyta currently has approximately 100 employees and will occupy more than 95,000 square feet at 4535 and 4545 Towne Centre Court.
The Axiom property, formerly known as Towne Centre Technology Park, was purchased by BioMed in May 2015 and is currently undergoing redevelopment. According to CoStar Group and public data, the buildings that Ignyta will occupy were part of a larger four-building portfolio that BioMed purchased from Los Angeles-based Arden Realty Inc., for approximately $83.8 million.
Ignyta is an oncology-focused biotechnology company that develops drugs geared to cancer patients whose tumors harbor specific molecular alterations, according to its website. It is currently located at 11111 Flintkote Ave., in a Sorrento Valley life science campus owned by BioMed Realty and known as Coast9.
Headquartered in Rancho Bernardo, BioMed Realty Trust is also at work on a new life science campus called i3, currently under construction at UTC.
