Hotel Management Company Plans to Lay Off up to 90 in San Diego

San Diego-based Hotel Managers Group LLC plans to lay off up to 90 workers effective Aug. 15, according to a company filing with the California Employment Development Department.

Company officials could not be reached for comment, and it was not immediately known whether the job cuts would impact corporate office operations or hotels overseen by the company. Hotel Managers Group filed the layoff notice on June 15, under the state’s Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) laws requiring a 60-day advance notice of layoffs.

According to its website, the company currently operates locally as HMG Hospitality, with an office in Rancho Bernardo and led by Chairman Charles W. “Jack” Giacomini. HMG oversees a portfolio of 14 hotels statewide, although all four of the listed San Diego County hotels have recently been sold off or are otherwise in transition.

The sold properties are the Mission Valley Hilton and Crowne Plaza San Diego, both in Mission Valley, and La Casa Del Zorro in Borrego Springs. The fourth property, Mission Valley Resort, is slated to be replaced by Legacy International Center, a religious training and tourism complex proposed by locally based Morris Cerullo World Evangelism and currently under review by city planners.
