Holiday Bowl Participants Score Record Payout

The two teams that faced off in the 2007 Pacific Life Holiday Bowl received a record $2.5 million apiece, the game’s organizers said March 7.

The University of Texas Longhorns beat the Arizona State University Sun Devils 52-34 before 64,020 fans in the 30th annual football game Dec. 27 at Qualcomm Stadium.

Bowl organizers paid the two universities Feb. 29. Participants were guaranteed at least $2.25 million. The 2006 game paid participants $2.33 million each.

The Holiday Bowl organizing committee also said March 7 that the other game it runs , the San Diego County Credit Union Poinsettia Bowl , paid out $750,000 to the participating teams, the U.S. Naval Academy Midshipmen and the University of Utah Utes. Utah won the Dec. 20 contest 35-32.
