Micropower Technologies, a San Diego maker of wireless surveillance cameras, named two heavy hitters from the local ranks of high-tech executives, Jim Brailean and Kevin Hell, to its board of directors, the firm said Jan. 31.
Brailean is CEO of PacketVideo, now a subsidiary of Japan’s NTT Docomo Inc., and holds 16 U.S. patents in the areas of video compression and video-based solutions.
Hell is the chairman of Pixon Imaging and EvoNexus, the business incubator run by CommNexus, a high-tech industry trade group. Hell is also the former CEO for DivX, a video compression software firm that was sold to Sonic Solutions in 2010, and holds board membership to that firm as well as Holdfree, Perminova and CommNexus.
The addition of the new board members follows Micropower’s closing of a $6.5 million series C funding round this month, led by Motorola Solutions Venture Capital and an undisclosed private fund, the company said.
