The UC San Diego Health System has been designated as a Blue Distinction Center for Spine Surgery as well as for Knee and Hip Replacement.
According to a Nov. 19 press announcement from UCSD, the honor is awarded to medical facilities that have demonstrated expertise in delivering quality health care in certain specialty medical areas by the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association.
“The Blue Distinction program represents millions of members across the nation who — should they become an out-of-state patient in San Diego — will now have access to the excellent patient care we consistently provide,” said Mona Sonnenshein, chief operating officer at UC San Diego Health System.
The health system offers conventional and minimally invasive spine surgery, computer-assisted surgery, total disc replacement, kyphoplasty and physical medicine and rehabilitation. It also provides services that include total hip or knee replacements.
More than 1,600 institutions have been designated Blue Distinction centers.
