Biotech upstart Gene Sciences Inc. has raised $8 million in equity funding, according to a recent form filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission.
According to the SEC, the paperwork was submitted on Nov. 22 and the financing included four investors.
Longtime life science venture capitalist Jim Blair is listed as an executive and director at Gene Sciences. Blair is a partner at San Diego-based Domain Associates, and has been involved in the development of more than 40 ventures, including Amylin Pharmaceuticals Inc., Dura Pharmaceuticals Inc., and NuVasive Inc.
Gene Sciences appears to be in stealth mode, as the company does not have a website or any other presence on the web.
The company was incorporated in June of this year, according to the California Secretary of State’s Office. Although the business incorporation forms list the company with headquarters in Los Angeles, more recent regulatory paperwork shows all executives residing in San Diego. It is unclear if that’s because the company’s investor is located in San Diego, or if Gene Science’s headquarters have moved down south.
