Fund-Raiser an Easy Way to Shop for Kids

Wrap It Up for the Holidays, a benefit for the San Diego Center for Children, will soon offer those looking for Christmas items a chance to shop for them in a plush setting, its organizers said.

Sponsored by the Kids Aid Auxiliary, the event will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Nov. 9 at the Darlington House, a Victorian-era mansion at 7441 Olivetas Ave., in La Jolla, said Carolyn Robinson, one of the organizers.

For a $20 in-advance admission fee ($25 at the door), donors will be treated to a buffet luncheon and the opportunity to shop for a variety of unique Christmas items, she said. For more information, contact her at (858) 272-3232.

Among the retailers participating in the event are Panache of La Jolla, which will display decorative Christmas jewelry, candles and ornaments, and La Jolla Holiday Store, which will be bringing decorative figurines, wall wreaths, wooden ornaments and other items, she said.

This is the sixth year for the event, which in 1999 raised $17,000. That money was used to buy a van for the Center for Children, a home for emotionally and physically abused youngsters in Linda Vista. In all, the auxiliary raised $43,000 last year and all of it went to benefit the center, Robinson said.

The San Diego Center for Children is the oldest accredited agency in San Diego County serving children in need since 1887, she said.
