Founders of Puesto to Launch Italian Food Concept

The founders of Puesto Mexican Artisan Kitchen & Bar are growing their portfolio.

Eric Adler, along with brothers Alan Adler and Alex Adler and cousins Isodoro Lombrozo and Moy Lombrozo, have signed a lease at the former Whisknladle restaurant in La Jolla Village, located next door to the original Puesto location. The family will be converting the space into a new concept, Marisi Italiano, scheduled to open early 2021.

While the terms of the deal were undisclosed, Eric Adler said the space is just under 4,000 square feet and will bring roughly 50 jobs to the region.

After more than 12 years in business, Whisknladle closed back in May due to the crisis.

Named After Grandparents

Named after their grandparents, Isodoro and Marila, Marisi will be led by Executive Chef Patrick Money (Cesarina, Cucina Enoteca, Smoking Goat), who will provide fresh pastas. Puesto’s Culinary Director, Erik Aronow, will consult on the house-made bread and pastry program and Beau du Bois, Puesto’s bar and spirits creative director, will lead the bar program.

“Marisi gives us an opportunity to explore a culinary passion we’ve long held and bring it to La Jolla,” said Eric Adler.

Second Project

Marisi Italiano may easily mark the second food and beverage project the Puesto team embarks on during the global coronavirus pandemic.

In July, the team opened the $8 million Puesto Cerveceria in Mission Valley, although hosting all of its diners on its 5,000 square foot parking lot.

“The good news is that we are on a private parking lot and so we have a bunch of space there to set up a big patio as well as a lot of space out front to do valet parking,” said Eric Adler said last month. “So, we will probably be able to accommodate a lot of people there really spaced out, with full social distancing guidelines being followed. That is why we were able to open the Cerveceria at this point – because of the expanded patio we have, which gives us the opportunity to really create a safe outdoor space.”

Fastest-Growing Private Company

Recently, as a result of their rapid growth, Puesto Mexican Artisan Kitchen & Bar was included in Inc. Magazine’s Inc. 5000 list as one of the 5,000 fastest-growing private companies in the country. The restaurant group, which has seven locations across California, including three in San Diego, ranked at No. 2212.

In addition to recently opening the Mission Valley location, The Puesto founders are continuing construction on two more Orange County restaurants.
