Debra Reed, elected in June as Sempra Energy’s CEO, was named to Fortune Magazine’s 2011 list of the “50 Most Powerful Women in Business,” which was published Sept. 29.
Reed has worked for Sempra and affiliate companies for 33 years, and was hired in 1978 as an energy systems engineer. In 1988, she became the first female officer appointed at the company. She is the first female CEO of Sempra.
Reed also serves on the board of directors of Halliburton Co., and was previously on the boards of American Gas Association, Genentech, Dominguez Service Corp. and Avery Dennison.
She is the current chairman of the San Diego Regional Economic Development Corp., and is a member of UC San Diego’s Jacobs School of Engineering and the Precourt Energy Efficiency Center at Stanford University.
