Former Chamber Head Takes CEO’s Chair at Electric Utility

Jessie Knight, the former president and CEO of the San Diego Regional Chamber of Commerce, was named as CEO of San Diego Gas & Electric, replacing Debra Reed, who is transferring to another unit of Sempra Energy, SDG&E’s parent corporation, the company announced Jan. 20.

Knight, 59, has worked at Sempra as the executive vice president of external affairs since he resigned from the chamber which he headed from 1999 to 2006.

Prior to that Knight was a commissioner on the California Public Utilities Commission from 1993 to 1999. He also held executive positions with the San Francisco Chamber of Commerce, the San Francisco Newspaper Agency and Dole Food Co.

Reed, 53, president and CEO of Southern California Gas Co. and SDG&E since 2006, will become executive vice president at Sempra Energy when the changes take effect March 29.

Donald Felsinger, chairman and CEO of Sempra Energy, said the company is making the organizational changes “to create a stronger engine for business growth and leadership development.”
