Vascular surgeon Dr. Michael Sise has been elected chief of staff by doctors at Scripps Mercy Hospital’s Hillcrest and Chula Vista campuses.
Replacing outgoing chief of staff Dr. Thomas Lian, Sise will serve a two-year term as medical staff liaison to the hospital’s administrative staff and Scripps Health’s board of directors.
A Jan. 3 news release said Sise plans to increase the medical staff’s collaboration and collegiality, and to focus on recruiting new physicians as the hospital’s senior doctors near retirement.
Sise has worked at Scripps since 1987, serving in positions including chief of surgery and trauma medical director. He earned a medical degree at the University of Rochester School of Medicine, and completed a residency and fellowship at the Naval Medical Center San Diego. He served the Navy as a surgeon for 20 years, and still trains military surgeons for combat casualty care.
Scripps Health is a nonprofit health-care system based in San Diego. It treats more than 700,000 patients yearly.
