Local designers of all kinds now have a chance to get together and network and discuss industry trends , while banging on drums and playing pool.
DesignDiego is a new networking group for designers, giving them the chance to learn more about each others’ work. Members include professionals from throughout the design world , including industrial, graphic, fashion, computer and furniture design, said Jackie Garland, spokeswoman for the design group DDStudio, one of the sponsors of the networking group.
Events are held the first Thursday of each month, and each event is different. The December event was a party at Sushi Performance Gallery in Downtown with music and dance. Guests were also invited to make ornaments out of beads and glass, hanging the ornaments on a “virtual Christmas Tree” made of light, she said.
There was no January event, due to the proximity to the New Year’s holiday, while February’s get-together was a more sedate affair at Poseidon Restaurant on the Beach in Del Mar. This was more of a general chat during happy hour, Garland said.
A prototype version of the event, held on a Saturday back in June, invited people to come to DDStudio’s headquarters in Carlsbad to bang on drums and play pool. But DDStudio is hoping that another design studio may eventually take over as host, she said.
