Deli Holds Right Numbers: Lottery Honors Retailer

San Diego’s Kings Liquor & Deli has been selected the California Lottery’s February 2000 Retailer of the Month.

Ahmad Zeidan, the owner of Kings Liquor & Deli in Paradise Hills, is “an energetic retailer,” said Tony Molica, sales planning coordinator for the California Lottery.

“(Ziedan) has had a $50,000 Fantasy 5 winner (and) has had sales of $10,000 to $15,000 weekly,” she said.

“I feel really special about this award because it’s very rare,” Ziedan said. “According to the people in Sacramento, we are the first San Diego store to receive this award in three or four years, so it’s quite an honor.”

The store’s sales total to more than $2 million to date and weekly sales average about $13,000.

Because 34 percent of lottery ticket sales go to public education, Kings Liquor & Deli is estimated to have generated more than $700,000 to California public schools. The store also supports local schools with donations.

“We support the local school organizations and sports, churches and the sheriff’s and fire departments,” Ziedan said. “Our store is very involved in the community, and I think that’s a part of why we were given this award , we give to the community and they give back by supporting us.”
