Cush Auto Sale Closes

Michigan-based United Auto Group said Jan. 11 that it closed its acquisition of Cush Automotive Group and has given the six Cush dealerships new names.

Terms of the sale were not revealed.

United Auto Group already runs Mercedes-Benz, Lexus, BMW and Toyota dealers on Kearny Mesa Road. The Cush dealerships on adjoining property will be renamed Kearny Mesa Acura and Jaguar/Aston Martin Kearny Mesa.

The corporation prefers geographical names, said a United Auto executive. The other Cush dealerships have taken the names Mission Valley Honda, Honda of Escondido, Acura of Escondido and Mazda of Escondido.

The acquired auto dealerships are expected to bring in $300 million of revenue per year. In all, United Auto said it expects to generate revenue of $900 million per year in the San Diego market.

United Auto does not expect to change employment levels at the dealerships, said Senior Vice President Tony Pordon. He added that the company typically goes in to “spruce up” new acquisitions, naming the Honda dealership on Mission Gorge Road as a candidate for remodeling.
