Corky McMillin Cos., McCarthy Building Cos. Launch New Construction Projects

The Corky McMillin Cos. broke ground on a 104,397-square-foot office building on Historic Decatur Road at Liberty Station in Point Loma. The three-story structure is designed for LEED certification and is scheduled for completion in mid-2009. An international defense contractor has leased 80,000 square feet of space, leaving 25,000 square feet available. KMA Architecture & Engineering designed the project.

McCarthy Building Cos. Inc. has started construction of a new 49,000-square-foot Allied Health building at San Diego Mesa College in Linda Vista. The $20 million project is funded by the Proposition S bond measure approved by voters in 2002. Architects Delawie Wilkes Rodrigues Barker, based in San Diego, is the designer. The three-story building will include computer, clinical dental, physical therapy and medical labs, plus offices. Completion is scheduled for August 2009.

Bonsall-based RQ Construction Inc. was awarded a $54.5 million contract for Marine Corps Special Operations Command headquarters and support facilities at Camp Pendleton. The work includes building six new structures, or 223,000 square feet. This contract contains options which, if exercised, will bring the total contract amount to $57.4 million. Work is expected to be completed by October 2010.

Brookfield said framing is under way for eight new homes in its Trellis neighborhood, located within Windingwalk, which is close to the new Otay Ranch Town Center. Trellis offers two-story floor plans ranging from approximately 2,361 to 2,620 square feet, with up to five bedrooms, 2.5 to three baths and two-car garages. Current pricing begins in the high-$400,000s.

Benchmark Landscape Inc. said it has been selected to renovate the grounds at Bridgepoint Corporate Center in San Diego’s Golden Triangle neighborhood. Services will include removing soil and plants and replacing them with new plants in accordance with a design developed by The Irvine Co., the property owner. The work is expected to begin in July, with completion scheduled for July 2009. The contract is valued at $1 million.

San Diego-based Stoneridge Centre Partners celebrated the opening of its 518,000-square-foot Stoneridge Towne Centre on June 7. Located in East Moreno Valley, the new center is home to a Target store, as well as Best Buy, Kohl’s and OfficeMax stores. The site also includes other retailers, restaurants, fast-food franchises and financial service businesses.
