SCS Energy, a division of SCS Engineers in San Diego, has been awarded a multiyear contract by Sonoma County for the design, fabrication, and operation of a facility that will convert landfill gas, or LFG, to compressed natural gas, or CNG.
The new facility will remove impurities and carbon dioxide from LFG produced at the Sonoma Central Landfill in Petaluma and produce CNG that meets California Air Resources Board standards for vehicle fuel. Sonoma County Transit plans to use the CNG to fuel buses.
