San Diegans aren’t too thrilled about giving data to the Census Bureau based on the results of a recent poll on the city of San Diego’s Web site.
According to the poll, 72 percent believe the police or the FBI can access their census data; 67 percent believe the same data can be accessed by the IRS; and 65 percent believe immigration authorities can access it.
In fact, the responses contained in the census report mailed to every address are confidential and cannot be accessed by any other government agency, according to the Census Bureau.
The poll also found that 93 percent were aware that federal and state funding is often based on the numbers collected in the census.
