California Southern Small Business Development Corp. Names New Chief Credit Officer

California Southern Small Business Development Corp. has named Juan Carlos Hernandez its chief credit officer.

Hernandez replaces Marvin Groner, who served as CCO of California Southern for 25 years, the organization said in a May 22 announcement.

The not-for-profit organization administers a state-funded, loan-guarantee program to help secure financing for small businesses in California, primarily in San Diego and Imperial counties.

Prior to joining California Southern Hernandez was chief credit officer for Accion San Diego, a microlender to small business owners in San Diego, San Bernardino, Riverside and Imperial counties. He also worked for U.S. Bank and Metropolitan Bank Group.

California Southern partners with community and regional banks and other local lending institutions to provide loan guarantees for small businesses unable to qualify for conventional financing.

Since it was established nearly 30 years ago, California Southern has helped guaranteed more than 2,000 loans totaling $196 million for businesses throughout San Diego and Imperial counties, the organization said.
