Bruce Binkowski, Mack Brown Inducted into Hall of Fame

The San Diego Bowl Game Association, which produces the Holiday Bowl and San Diego County Credit Union Poinsettia Bowl, inducted two new members into its Hall of Fame. Bruce Binkowski and Mack Brown were recognized Thursday at a luncheon held at the Marriott Marquis San Diego Marina.

In 1978, Bruce Binkowski was hired as the first full-time employee of the Holiday Bowl and remained with the organization for 38 years, serving as public relations director, marketing director and eventually executive director. He retired in February of this year.

Under Binkowski’s leadership, the organization said, the Holiday Bowl delivered an annual average economic impact of nearly $30 million per year to the city of San Diego, and, in 2005, the NCAA certified a second San Diego bowl game, the San Diego County Credit Union Poinsettia Bowl, adding to the region’s economic impact.

Coach Mack Brown brought the Texas Longhorns to five Holiday Bowls, the most appearances in the game’s history by any coach other than Brigham Young University’s LaVell Edwards.
