Advanced Market Acquires Interest in Canadian Firm


Advanced Marketing Services, Inc. has acquired a 25 percent interest in Raincoast Book Distribution Ltd., of Vancouver, B.C.

The acquisition is meant to enhance the San Diego company’s distribution system.

Raincoast was established in 1979, and was recently voted “Distributor of the Year” by the Canadian Booksellers Association.

The company represents about 40 publishers in the Canadian market on an exclusive distribution basis, a service that Advanced Marketing has not been able to provide.

Factory 2-U Stores Gain



San Diego-based Factory 2-U Stores has seen an increase in sales at its stores nationwide over the past five weeks, according to company officials.

As of Oct. 2, sales were $37.1 million, compared to $30.8 million for the five-week period of September 1998.

Sales for the 1999 year so far are $200.1 million.

Chula Vista Center Awards $10,750 to Schools



Chula Vista Center will award $10,750 to local schools, thanks to shoppers.

The center’s “Cash Back for Schools” program, which has been running all summer, encouraged shoppers to trade in their receipts for points that could be applied toward a school of the shopper’s choice.

The top five schools through Oct. 4 were Castle Park Middle School, Chula Vista High School, Hilltop Middle, Mueller Elementary and Rice School.

An awards ceremony will be held at 1 p.m. Oct. 23, in Chula Vista Center’s Carousel Food Court.
